Roses are a sign of love and friendship and by giving someone a rose you are telling them how truly special they are. There are a number of colors of roses available and each one represents a different meaning to the receiver. If you are looking to purchase roses for that special someone, but aren’t quite sure which color would best suit your relationship, keep reading to find out what each color represents.

Red – Red roses are a sign of love, beauty, courage and respect. This color represents romantic, sincere and passionate love. If you want to show your loved one that they are the love of your life, red roses are the ones to choose. Giving a single red rose to someone is a simple way to say “I love you”.

White – White roses are a sign of purity, innocence, silence and youthfulness. They are given to individuals who are shy about love and are used to tell the person how special they are. White roses can also be used in weddings as an indication of new love which is just beginning.

Pink – Pink roses are a sign of appreciation and are often given as a thank you. Pink flowers also represent happiness and admiration and are given to someone you love whether it be a significant other or a best friend.

Yellow – Yellow roses are a sign of friendship, happiness, joy and promise. Yellow roses are often given to show happiness for loved ones who are returning from a long trip or leave of absence.

Orange – Orange roses signify desire and enthusiasm. They can be given at a graduation or a commencement to celebrate the ending and beginning of two different phases in life.

Lavender/Purple – Lavender or purple roses are a sign of love at first sight. If you just meet someone and have fallen head over heals for them, show them how you feel by giving them lavender roses.

Regardless of the color of roses, they represent love and friendship among many other wonderful things. Roses can be planted in your garden or kept in vases throughout your home. If you are growing roses in your garden follow this gardening tip to ensure you receive the best results possible:

Pruning Your Roses – Using pruning shears, trim your roses around the edges and remove any dead leaves from the plant. Cut out any dead wood, twigs or stems which are cross-growing over one another. Pruning should be done twice a year (once in the spring and once in the fall) to ensure your roses are kept in top condition.

Where you decide to plant your roses and the kind you choose will affect the overall appearance of your garden. Roses are quite possibly the most popular flower to show love and happiness and anyone who receives a rose for any reason should consider themselves a very lucky person.

Best Ways To Transplanting In The Garden

Early spring is a great time for transplanting trees and shrubs, but you must do so before they wake up. Transplanting a plant is a very traumatic experience for the plant if it is awake. It’s like doing surgery on a person while they are awake. Dormancy starts in the fall as soon as you experience a good hard freeze, and the plants remain dormant until the weather warms up in the spring. This is when you should transplant, while the plants are dormant.

Transplanting Roses For Newbies

Edit Article |

Transplanting roses is easy and this article will show you how. But is it is important to keep a few things in mind because without your roses will suffer greatly. When approached properly the whole transplanting process will be a success and your roses will be back to producing their stunning flowers.

So now to these key points laid out for you in 5 quick easy steps:

Step 1 – Site Preparation. Prepare the rose plants to be moved by thoroughly watering them for about 4-5 days prior to transplanting, water preferably in the morning. By doing this you will minimize the shock the roses experience during the transplanting and subsequent re-establishing. When watering always make sure to water directly into the ground and not on the rose itself so that bush doesn’t become prone to fungus or disease later.

The new planting site can be prepared by working in some compost or broken down horse manure into the soil. Dig a hole of about a foot deep and a foot and a half wide. Ensure that the hole is large enough to fit the bush’s root ball comfortably. Make a little mound in the hole on which to set the rose. To improve fertility add a bit of compost or bone meal to the bottom of the new hole.

Step 2 – Prune. Before commencing the actual transplanting process it is a good idea to trim any unwanted growth from the rosebush. Not only will it give you the chance to adapt the shape it will also allow the roots to concentrate on establishing the plant in its new location rather than trying to support a lot of growth. In fact if you want to do your rose a real favor trim it back hard as this will limit transplanting stress.

Step 3 – Digging a hole. Dig deep down about two feet and in three to four feet circumference around the plant with a spade. Slowly remove the root ball and carefully cut little stray roots without inflicting too much damage to the root system. Collect as much soil and roots of the rose. Once out of the soil completely, wrap the root ball in a piece of burlap or damp towel to maintain moisture levels while out of the soil. Now take it to its new planting ground before it dries out.

Step 4 – The actual transplant. Slowly place the rose plant and soil mass into the hole, make adjustment to the hole if necessary. Then, add a small amount of the soil mixture and press it down gradually but firmly around the rose plant’s root ball. Water the rose plant thoroughly. Keep adding more of the soil mixture around the rose until the soil in the hole is almost level with the surrounding ground. Water the rose plant extremely well so that it takes the water a minute or so to properly drain from the surface. Tidy up the area around the rose plant and add a layer of mulch.

Step 5 – After Transplant. After a successful transplant, continue to water the rose plant daily. This much needed water is essential for new growth and plant establishment. Use an organic anti-fungal spray to protect the newly transplanted rosebush while it still establishing itself. Once new growth starts to appear get ready to fertilize with some organic fertilizer such as compost or seaweed liquid.

And there you have it, 5 fairly straight forward steps that anyone who grows roses or is thinking about starting a rose garden really needs to know about. Indeed, how to transplant roses is part of basic rose bush care knowledge. Wishing you many strong rose bushes, after successfully transplanting them, that produce vigorous, magnificently flourishing rose blooms for you and your family to enjoy.

Golden Roses

Edit Article |

Posted: Jan 20, 2011 |Comments: 0
|

A golden rose is not what you might think; it’s actually a real flower – a rose – that has been preserved forever in gold. A golden rose can be trimmed in gold, or dipped entirely in the precious metal; it’s a special keepsake that can be treasured, displayed, and remembered for a lifetime.

By the time the 1800s had rolled around, most of the Chinese roses (which is where roses originated), had made their way into Europe. In 1837, a hybrid perpetual rose (a cross between a Bourbon rose and any other kind of parent species of the flower) was introduced by way of France. It was a hybrid that found its ancestors in the damask, cabbage, tea, noisette, China, and Bourbon roses. This particular rose was very tough, producing large, fragrant flowers. While the original hybrid perpetuals were pink, once crossed with the Bourbon rose species, the red coloring [found in the Bourbon], forever turned up in the line.

Until the turn of the century, hybrid perpetuals remained popular, but were eventually overshadowed by the hybrid tea rose, which was considered a far superior flower. Unfortunately, only about 50 varieties of these roses can be bought today as most of the original creations were lost. At one time, there had been more than three thousand varieties of this flower which had been hybridized during what was referred to as “the golden age of roses.”

When the hybrid perpetual rose was crossed with the tea rose, it produced a hybrid tea that was much more dependable in terms of blooming qualities than that of its ‘parent’ hybrid. In 1867, the very first hybrid tea rose, called ‘La France’ was first introduced. In 1893, the hybrid tea class of roses was formally recognized by The National Society of Great Britain. Since that time, it has become one of the most popular types of roses today.

As far as rose breeding was concerned, with the creation of the hybrid tea a new era had begun for these beautiful and popular flowers; before 1867, every type of rose produced was called an ‘old garden rose,’ and anything new created after that year was referred to as a ‘modern rose.’

The beauty of a golden rose is not only that it’s a stunning, hand-crafted creation, but it’s also a unique gift that can be used to celebrate an all important relationship (just as fresh-cut roses do). A dozen 24K golden roses are worth every penny for that special someone.

Silver Roses And Interesting Rose Facts

Silver roses are never made with sterling silver, despite popular belief. They’re silver plated since sterling [silver] can only be used in making jewelry and household items because of its 925 millesimal fineness (a system in which the purity of silver is measured). For example, an alloy or compound which contains 75 percent gold would be denoted as “750.”

Roses That Last Forever

Edit Article |

Posted: Jan 21, 2011 |Comments: 0
|

When one receives a rose, the hope is always that it will last forever. Unfortunately, the real thing doesn’t last long especially when they are fresh cut. If you are lucky enough to live in a place that is warm year round, a forever rose garden is a distinct possibility.

Given how time consuming and difficult it is to grow roses, not to mention their short shelf life after they have been cut, opting to buy roses made of materials like crystal, gold, silver, and porcelain, is another way to keep a gold rose that lasts forever.

The transformation of the rose flower from the wild plant it started out as to the 30,000 varieties that exist today, is quite remarkable. A gold rose lasts forever is a fitting title for a flower that has been around for 35 million years. Experts today tend to divide roses into two groups: ‘old roses,’ which were cultivated in Europe prior to 1800, and ‘modern roses’ – cultivated in both England and France around the turn of the 19th century. Up until the beginning of the 19th century, the only color roses were found in were various shades of pink and white. The red rose was first introduced by China in 1800. A few decades later, green roses began to exist. Yellow roses became part of the rose color palette in 1900. They were discovered by accident by Frenchman Joseph Permet-Ducher. He had been cultivating roses for twenty years and in that time had searched desperately for yellow roses. While in a field one day, he came across a mutant yellow flower and both yellow and orange roses have existed ever since. It seems fitting that a forever rose of yellow coloring means joy and gladness – Mr. Permet-Ducher likely had these very same feelings after his chance discovery.

Every year, on every holiday, or occasion, gifts tend to come and go. The gift of a gold rose that lasts forever, is a memory for a lifetime, given the sentiment roses invoke. From the ancient civilizations of Greek and Rome, roses have been used to express feelings of love for thousands of years. The same stands true today. The rose has also represented love in music, literature, and poetry – it’s no wonder they are referred to as the ‘Queen of Flowers.’

A gold rose that lasts forever is unsurpassed in its beauty and given there are 50 colors to choose from, you can never go wrong when picking one (or two or three). If you live in a place where snow blankets the ground for much of the year, as the seasons change, choose a different forever rose to display in your home to commemorate the transition. It can serve as a reminder that summer is not so far off and that soon enough, roses will once again be in bloom.
