It is indeed the dream of everyone to have a lush and beautiful lawn.  A well maintained lawn is an indication of an individual’s artistic sense and personality.  With the right lawn care measures, one can surely boast of a healthy lawn.  A lawn owner will have to invest enough time and efforts to be the proud owner of a beautiful lawn.  Taking care of the lawn during the winter months can be really tough.  A well-maintained and healthy lawn is a reflection of the efforts of the lawn owner.  It is an expression of his hard work and love towards the lawn and the garden.  By following some simple lawn care tips, you can surely have a lawn to boast about.

If you have the money to invest, then you can check out for lawn care professionals.  But there are people who want to tend to their lawn all by themselves.  The best way to achieve this is to check out on the internet.  Do a thorough research about the best seeds available and where to buy them at cheap rates. To begin with, you can plant grass in your lawn.  You may either plant warm season grass or cool season grass, depending on the area or the geographical location.

If the grass plantings are new, you need to ensure that it remains moist.  For fully grown grasses, watering once weekly is more than enough.  Lawns which are healthy would require only about an inch of water weekly. Aeration is yet another very important aspect of lawn care as it keeps the lawn from getting saturated. Check out for lawn fertilisers which are ideal for the lawn.  Grasses help in supplying the requisite nitrogen to your lawn.  It is important to keep feeding the soil with requisite nutrients like rich compost.

Weeding should be done regularly so that the weeds and unwanted plants are removed from the soil.  This is very much important, for the lawn to remain healthy.  Many of us may have heard of organic lawn care.  It is simple and calls for investing lesser time.  By adopting organic materials, we can surely make our lawn look attractive and will be eager to spend more time, tending to our lawn.

The organic solutions are easy to use.  Many of these just have to be mixed with water and sprayed on the lawn, especially on affected parts of the garden.  It works wonderfully on fruit and vegetable plants, without affecting them.  Worms and insects feeding on the vegetable plants like cabbage and tomatoes are killed. There are a number of natural remedies which can be adopted for getting rid of a patchy looking lawn.

Check out for lawn care products in the market and you can find so many varieties of these products on the shelves. Many people are becoming aware of the dangers associated with chemical pesticides and are slowly adopting natural ways to protect their lawn.

Taking Care Of Knock Out Roses

Edit Article |

Posted: Apr 10, 2010 |Comments: 0

The Knockout rose, the newest addition to the rose family, is an easy-to-grow variety developed by Wisconsin Botanist and rose expert William Radler in his quest for a low-maintenance, disease-resistant rose bush that will add beauty to any landscape.

Caring for Knockout roses is actually as simple as it gets in the rose growing world, making these the ideal rose for the beginner.  Named among the longest-blooming of rose types, they need a minimal amount of care and attention to become the yard centerpiece people expect from roses.

With so many varieties of roses out there to choose from, it is worth taking the time to familiarize yourself with different species and their function in the world of roses. Not intended for floral centerpieces, Knockout roses are best suited for landscaping in an outdoor yard or garden.

The purpose of Knockout roses is to enhance an outdoor landscape with a repeat bloomer that is hardy but elegant. Radler’s hybrid crosses the Razzle Dazzle rose with the Carefree Beauty rose (both repeat blooming varieties) with such success, it managed to win the 2000 All American Rose Award and entice the senses of rose growers overnight.  Ten years after its release, the Knockout rose continues to be among the most popular landscape flowers worldwide.

As soon as you get them home the nurturing process begins. Knockouts come as a small shrub which will grow to a three-foot diameter. Its blooms are gorgeous crimson red minis (about three-inches in diameter) that blossom continuously from late spring to fall. You will want to prune them to between 12- and 18-inches at the start of spring, and by midsummer they will have grown by two feet.

Caring for Knockout roses requires pruning ahead of any new plant growth and keeping up with the new growth all through the blooming season to maintain manageability. This actually means clipping stray shoots to preserve the plant’s sculpted shape.

Knockouts are self-cleaning, making it unnecessary to deadhead them over the course of the season unless you want to get rid of an older bloom that stubbornly refuses to shed. A minimum of six hours of sunlight daily minimum, even though they fare well in shaded areas. Be sure the soil is rose-friendly, with plenty of drainage.

Since they are shrubs, Knockout roses take on a sparse, almost unsightly appearance in the winter, something to keep in mind before you commit them to the ground. It might make sense to plant them near evergreens and other winter foliage that can camouflage or detract the spare winter appearance of the dormant Knockout.

Water your Knockout roses only at the base, being careful to keep the foliage dry and prevent vulnerability to fungal disease. Climate rated for zones 5 and south, they can be protected from the harshest winter cold by layering on mulch after the first frost. If they’re in pots, simply move them indoors and out of the freezing temperatures.

An excellent first choice for any new garden, the Knockout is a low maintenance answer to creating a beautiful rose display in your yard.

Deadheading- Promoting Rose Bush Care And Blooming

Edit Article |

Posted: Apr 14, 2010 |Comments: 0

Deadheading your roses is a part of caring for roses as well as your companion flowers. Even if you are just transplanting roses, growing roses for cuttings or simply growing miniature roses; all roses need deadheading. All roses must be pruned back or take part in deadheading which is the act of removing spent blossoms from your plants. This causes the plant to think it has not reproduced, so the plant then puts off regrowth hormones and produces another bloom to again try.

With rose bush care, growing climbing roses or any type of rose tree gardens, deadheading your plants helps the plants to make more blooms and increases air circulation so disease is less likely to take place. Here are a few things you need to know about deadheading.

Normal healthy roses without any diseases or mutations will have a blood stem no bigger around than the stem it is growing from. The blooms will be proportionate in their size to stems they grow from; so the further down you cut to deadhead, the bigger the blooms will grow but it will also take longer for another bloom to grow.

When cutting to deadhead your roses, your cuts should be made at angles away from the node. If you have a problem with mini wasps, seal the cut with glue; but generally the cut will seal on its own quickly. The stem growth from the nodes nearest the cut will begin afterwards. It is generally a decision you must make as to how far down the stem you should cut.

In rose gardening, it is always a matter of timing as to how well caring for roses or your rose gardening in general will turn out. For rose bush care, it is best to not deadhead, but simply allow the blooms to expire on their own and then rose hips will take their place over the winter. If your roses offer large clusters of blooms, it is best to cut further down the stem. But if you are dealing with hybrids and constantly disbud, then deadheading that far down will affect how large the next blooms will be. This should be done based on how large you want the blooms to be and how fast you want the plant to recycle. Look for the true leaf to find where you should begin cutting; and after the plant is done blooming you can cut the stem back even further.

Older rose gardening pros who deal with rose tree gardens and growing climbing roses as well as growing miniature roses or knock out roses will offer that this only works for the plant to be able to bloom again. Many roses do not have the capability to do so on their own. If you don’t want hips, deadheading will simply reduce insects such as pill bugs and earwigs.

How Do Fertilizers Work?

Besides sun and water, all plants require nutrients that help them grow strong so they can produce healthy food and flowers. Successful growers regularly fertilize their gardens, restoring nutrients and minerals that may be missing from imperfect soils, as well as important elements that were used up by previous plantings. Whether you choose a solid or liquid fertilizer, you should apply it directly to the soil so it can be more readily absorbed by the plant’s roots.

Marketing Your Lawn Care Business

Lawn Care Marketing

Marketing your lawn care business is one of the most crucial components for success besides having the right equipment or the job. For some lawn care service owners, marketing is their least favorite part of the business. They’d rather be out working than drumming up business. But your lawn care business is dead without a good marketing system in place.

Let your marketing slack and you are sure to feel the burn soon after. Lawn care marketing doesn’t have to be a chore if you lay out some good habits and stick to your plan.

First, you need to get a good lawn care business name and logo. Something that is good and memorable enough so that people think of you when they have a job that needs filled. Your logo and lawn care business name should be on your lawn care business cards, flyers, trucks and equipment.

Drop your lawn care business cards at local restaurants, car dealerships, and anywhere else there is good public traffic. Lawn care flyers are cheap ad easy to spread around town yourself, or you can pay a student to canvass the town for you. Just make sure your business logo and name stand out and that you pay attention to how your offer stands up to the competition.

Your crew should have t-shirts with your logo and business name on them when working. Some owners like hats for this purpose. But the “canvas” of a t-shirt is bigger and can be seen by drivers going by the job site.

Be Creative When Thinking of Lawn Care Marketing Tactics

Offer an incentive program for your best customers. This is a BIG lawn care business-booster and it works like a charm. Have some business cards made up that have a discount on them for first-time customers. These cards need to be presented to you by first-time customers and on the back you should have printed the name of your regular customer (who you gave the cards to).

Offer 5-10 cards to your regular customers that they can give away to friends and family. When someone redeems the card, you give a discount on service to the customer who gave them the card as a thank-you for helping them market your lawn care business.

Don’t be afraid to take a small loss to gain a new customer or to reward stable customers for helping you market your lawn care business. You are going to beat the competition more often and gain more long-term clients this way.

Lawn care marketing relies heavily on word-of-mouth advertising. So be mindful of this when servicing your current clients. Going out of your way and going the extra mile on the job will net you plenty of referrals. Neighbors talk. You want your customers saying nice things about you and your work so you can grab the extra business your customers are more than happy to set you up with if they like your work.

Your Options, In Terms of Ways Through Which You Can Get Lawn Care Done

Edit Article |

Posted: Dec 09, 2010 |Comments: 0
|

You have three main options, in terms of ways through which you can get lawn care done.

In the first instance, you can decide to do the lawn care yourself. This is a very viable possibility where it is a domestic lawn we are looking at, as most domestic lawns tend to be of a relatively modest size. You need three things, when you decide to go this lawn care route. You need the lawn care equipment and materials. Then you need the lawn care know-how (because, contrary to what many of us imagine, effective lawn care requires a considerable amount of technical know-how). Finally, you will need the time and energy to undertake the lawn care.

Some of the equipment required for lawn care you can hire, whilst buying the rest. Most of the materials needed for lawn care (the likes of grass seeds, fertilizers, insecticides and so on) are things you will just have to buy, as they are ‘consumables’ that can’t be hired. It is typically your leisure time that you will need to put into the lawn care. The knowledge required for the project can be acquired through a visit to the library, purchasing a lawn care book or online research (as the internet has tons of relevant lawn care information).

In the second instance, you can decide to (directly) employ someone to do the lawn care for you. This is a viable option whether it is a modest domestic lawn we are looking at, or whether it is a huge organizational lawn we are looking at. In the case of bigger organizational lawns, you may find that a single person is unable to manage the lawn effectively, necessitating the employment of several people for the task, and effectively creating a ‘lawn care department.’ There are organizations that decide to task lawn care to the housekeeping departments, so that the people in those departments care for the lawns as part of their brief. On the other hand, in the domestic setting, the sizes of the lawns may be so small that it would be unsustainable to employ a full-time worker to be maintaining them. In such cases, it would make sense to hire a part-timer to maintain the lawn, or pay the domestic staff ‘something extra’ to maintain the lawns. The tricky thing with either situations is that whilst most of the people you find may have the time and energy to undertake the lawn care, they will tend to be lacking in technical skills, making it necessary to have to show them how to do things –so that you end up spending time on the lawn care, in spite of paying people for it.

Your third option, in terms of getting your lawn care done, would be to contract the whole project to a lawn care company. There are many such companies, which offer lawn care services as a package – where you just show them where you want the lawn established, pay them, give them an idea on what type of a lawn you want, and leave it upon them to ‘make it happen.’ Whilst their services are increasingly costly, the most beautiful thing about these firms is that they take the whole lawn care burden off your shoulders, and they really have the capacity to deliver results.

Maintain your lawn and garden

Rules of Thumb for Water Use on Lawns and Gardens * One deep watering is much better than watering several times lightly. * Lawns need about 1 inch of water each week. If the weather is very hot, apply an inch of water about every 3 days. * Watering to a depth of 4-6 inches encourages deeper, healthier root development. It allows longer periods between watering.

|
