You should only water lawn with the right amount of water or else you are going to end up with a dead lawn.
If you think that lawn watering is simple then you may be right and you may be wrong. There are several factors to consider when you are lawn watering. First, you have to make sure that you have a good watering system in the first place.
You have to buy one of those very effective sprinklers and make sure that it works properly. If you want your lawn watering to be hassle free then you have to make sure that you get the right equipment for the job.
What Sort Of Grass Is It Anyway?
You have to understand the type of grass that makes up your lawn. You see, whilst all grasses need a certain amount of water and sunlight everyday some need additional help to look good. They may also need lawn fertilizer as part of the lawn care you give.
Understanding the type of grass that you have will determine the way you should be creating a lawn watering plan of action, incorporating the lawn treatments that are recommended for it. If you understand your grass and act accordingly, then lawn care should not be a problem at all.
Common Problems With Getting Lawn Watering Just Right
Why do a lot of people out there have a hard time with their lawn watering activities? First of all, people are so busy with their lives nowadays. In order to make ends meet, you might even have had to take on two jobs. Which, of course, means that you might have had to neglect time at home.
If you are having a hard time lawn watering then maybe you should hire a gardener to do your lawn care for you. Outsourcing is a very important aspect of daily life and it is one of the more important business models in the world today.
For example, if you had to take off three hours a week to care for your lawn, might it even be less expensive to hire someone to do it for you. It’s all a calculation you might take into account.

The Pros And Cons Of Outsourcing Lawn Care

There is an upside and a downside to outsourcing lawn tasks. By âoutsourcing lawn care tasks’ we are referring to the situation where, rather than undertaking the tasks by yourself, you decide to contract them to one of the firms that have lawn care as their core business. That is an increasingly popular way of doing things, as an ever growing number of firms opt to âconcentrate on their core competencies’ while contracting other âdistracting tasks’ to firms that specialize in them. Of course, the idea of outsourcing lawn case is not open to businesses alone. Individual home owners who can’t find the time to do their own lawn care, and who don’t feel that they should directly employ full-time or even part-time lawn care staff either, are increasingly opting to outsource lawn care. The same is the case with non business organizations, that don’t feel they have to concentrate on lawn care tasks, whilst possibly ignoring their core tasks on which they should be focusing their energies.
As it turns out, though, there are several advantages and disadvantages to this outsourcing of lawn care tasks to firms that have such lawn care as their core business.
Starting with the advantages, it turns out, for starters, that chances of getting the lawn care well done are indeed very high when you task it to competent landscaping and lawn care firms. In other words, thanks to the fact that this is what they do on a day to day basis, most of these firms end up becoming very good at it, as they over time develop an idea on which practices are truly effective. Still on the advantages, it emerges that, in most cases, getting lawn care done by these âspecialist’ firms may prove to be a more cost-effective way of doing it. That is the case even when it is a personal (home) lawn we are looking at, where keen calculations may show that the sums of money you pay to the lawn care firms are nothing compared to the sums of money you earn in the time you would have cumulatively spent caring for the lawns. Where the alternative is to employ lawn care staff (as in organizational lawns), you may find the prospect of having your lawns being cared for without having to deal with human resource management issues of the lawn care staff attractive.
But there is a downside to such outsourcing of lawn care to the firms as well. For starters, it may emerge that since the staff at these firms have to care for lawns at many locations, they are unable to give your lawn the personalized attention it could get from your (or from your own dedicated lawn care staff). To them, yours could be âjust another lawn’ among the many they have to care for. Further, if you are a gardening enthusiast, you may find that tasking lawn care to these firms would amount to âgiving away the fun,’ which could very possibly beat the whole point of having a lawn. There are also cases where the rates charged by the lawn care firms turns out to be too high, even compared to what you would have spent on part-time (dedicated) lawn care staff.

The ever-increasing demands on our personal time are largely responsible for the rapid expansion of the lawn care industry over the past 10 years. For a very reasonable fee, lawn care companies are able to provide homeowners with a complete custom-designed lawn care program, including fertilization, weed and insect control, aeration and even overseeding to keep lawns green and weed-free throughout the season.
Getting Started
Lawn care companies come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from a few trucks to large fleets. Some are franchised, others are privately owned. From the perspective of service none of these factors is particularly significant when making a choice. However, here are some of the factors you should take into consideration when choosing a lawn care program..
What sort of program does the company offer?
How many times will the lawn care company visit your home and what lawn services does it provide with each visit? Your lawn’s needs vary depending on the time of year, current condition of your lawn and your location. The work performed will also depend on the season.
Be prepared to ask questions about the types of lawn programs offered and the quality of the lawn products used. Are you looking for an organic or a synthetic lawn care program? Are you aware that you choice will have a direct bearing on the final results?
How much after service support do they offer?
A green and healthy lawn will require more than a few visits per season from a professional lawn care company. Do they offer information and advice on techniques for mowing, watering, etc. between visits?
Have they made you a ware of their continuous service policy?
Many lawn care companies will continue to service your lawns year after year until you ask them to stop. Known as continuous service billing, this is more than a convenience to the company than to the customer. Do you want them to continue the service without your explicit agreement? Has the company sales person taken the time to explain their company’s policy in full?
How to choose the right lawn care company
- Keep an eye out for lawn care companies in your area. Each company’s effectiveness should be plain for you to see!
- How many years has the company been in business? Are they established in your part of town?
- All lawn care companies are required by law to be licensed with the Ministry of the Environment. Look for the MOE sticker on the truck.
- Is the staff fully trained?
- Is the lawn care company a member of Landscape Ontario? The Pesticide Symposium is one of the major educational programs hosted annually by Landscape Ontario. Each year people employed in the lawn care industry are brought up to date on the latest techniques in safe and effective lawn care.

We have all become more aware of the strains our environment is facing and most people are willing to change their habits to make a difference. Some of the more obvious ways to do this is through recycling, conservation, and charitable support. While these are all great ways to get started, many people overlook lawn care as another opportunity to go green. Here are some simple steps you can take integrate natural lawn care into your lifestyle.
Use a Push Reel Mower
Studies have shown that a single lawn mower produces more air pollution in one hour than a car produces over 1000 miles. Reel mowers don’t emit any air pollution, and many would be surprised how efficient they are. Laser cut blades eliminate a lot of the labor and spotty performance that used to plaque the old fashioned units, and some even offer a bagging accessory. If you need a little more power to get through a larger lawn, then opt for the electric models which are still significantly more eco-friendly than gasoline engines.
Collect Rain Water
Water is a very scarce resource in some areas, especially during the summer season. You can help conserve water and lower your utility bills by investing in a rain barrel. These plastic tubs are placed near the perimeter of your home to collect rain, and many have hose attachments to make it easy to redistribute the water to your plants.
Build a Compost Bin
Compost bins help you recycle your lawn debris into a fertilizer-rich compound. Some people mistakenly believe that generating compost is a major chore. The truth is that all you have to do is turn the compost every few weeks to ensure it degrades properly. Mother Nature does the rest with a natural supply of heat and moisture. Not only will you make good use of your debris, but you plants will benefit from the rich nutrients that compost returns to the earth.
Use Natural Fertilizers and Pesticides
Synthetic fertilizers contain thousands of chemicals and poisons that negatively affect the organisms that come into contact with them. It is unfortunate that not enough people know about the alternatives to chemical lawn treatments. There are many books available with recipes for natural lawn fertilizers that are not only safe for the environment, but they usually less expensive than retail products. Interestingly enough, many can be made with common items from your local grocery store.
There are many ways to integrate natural lawn care into your lifestyle, and very few of them require much time or effort on your part. Lawn Care – How Frost Affects Grass Seeds

Having a beautiful lawn with lush green grass is a dream of every home owner. Your lawn shows your aesthetic sense and reflects your personality. A beautiful and healthy garden is a thing of beauty which makes every home owner proud, but this can only be achieved through proper lawn care. Making a lawn is no doubt hard work, but keeping it looking great through the years is even harder. This becomes even harder during winter season.
The most threatening thing for a lawn during the winter season is “frost”. Frost occurs on cold and clear nights, when the weather is extremely cold. So I would suggest never think of seeding grass in that season. The growth of grass depends on how you kept and stored the seed.
You have to understand that you can’t plant grass at any time during the year. There is a time for planting the grass seeds. Never think of planting grass seeds during the winter or early spring season as the frost will spoil the seed and make it unviable. The best time for planting the seed is mid spring when the air is warm and moist. This is the best climate for the germination of grass. In parts of the world where spring season is comparatively dry and warmer, the planting of grass seeds should be done in early spring when the frost subsides. For good lawn care you should keep a close watch on the weather conditions and find out which are most suited for sowing new seeds in your area. As a rule, never go for sowing when the ground is cold.
When you see the climate is suitable for planting grass seeds, dig the ground four to five inches, take the seeds out from storage and sow them. By the time the seeds begin to germinate; the temperature would be perfect for the grass to grow. So the best time to plant grass is early or mid-spring season depending on your area. This means that grass needs moist and wet climate for good growth. So if the natural moisture is not available; then water the grass with you irrigation pipe.
So for good lawn care the most important thing is to prevent grass seeds from frost as it is not at all suitable for them. It’s important to wait for the frosty season to get over and then think of taking the grass seeds out of tis storage container. As each seed contains a tiny droplet of water at its core to be used upon germination if that water freezes because of the frost it will expand and damage the seed. So let the frosty season go and wait for the spring to plant grass seeds.
